Ed "Coach Ed" James

Personal Trainer and Athlete Performance Coach

Coach Ed’s journey into sports and fitness began early, fueled by a passion for soccer and other athletic pursuits. His dedication led him to play with a top-level club soccer team in Santa Barbara, competing both nationally and internationally. Alongside his soccer career, Ed immersed himself in weight training and overall fitness.

After high school, Ed pursued formal certifications as a personal trainer through ISSA and NASM and expanded his knowledge with coursework in nutrition, anatomy, and physiology at SBCC. He began his career helping clients of all ages achieve their personal fitness goals.

Driven by a desire to return to high-level athlete training, Ed transitioned to coaching competitive bodybuilders and athletes preparing for fitness and bikini competitions. His diverse background includes 12 years as a firefighter and EMS professional, where he served as the Cadet Program Coordinator. This role honed his skills in mentoring high school youth both in their firefighting aspirations and in their personal development.

Simultaneously, Ed’s passion for soccer remained strong. Known locally as “Coach Ed,” he has been coaching soccer since 2014. He currently leads a high school varsity team and runs "Coach Ed Soccer Training," where he focuses on player development and athlete performance. His training approach encompasses technical skills, strength, injury prevention, and equally emphasizes mental resilience and mindset.

Outside of his professional life, Ed enjoys outdoor adventures, spending time with family, and taking his dog to the beach. He treasures his role as an uncle, delights in live music and sports events, and values connecting with new people and sharing laughs with friends.
